Writer’s
Corner:
Being a writer usually means learning how to write where
ever you might find a few spare moments. I know people assume that it’s a fancy
life with promotional events, signings and writing in far-away, exotic locales.
I hate to burst that fantasy but it couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Most days I wake, grab a cup of strong coffee and shuffle
three sleepy teens off to school, with plenty of bickering about where their
gear was left the night before. By the time they leave, I’m able to grab my now
lukewarm cup of coffee and hit my recliner in my living room, usually still in
pajamas. Yes, I write in my PJs.
While I do occasionally write on-the-go or in my nearest
Starbucks (insert a venti skinny caramel macchiato here), my go-to location is
my living room. It has everything a writer needs: two enormous bookshelves
filled to bursting, a decorative filing system nearby, and a plug. Oh, and I
mustn’t forget the one thing every writer needs, a window to stare out of while
I wait for inspiration to strike.
I do have a desk upstairs (also with a window) but I most
often find myself in the recliner. It’s cozy comfort allows me to burrow into
it and sit for hours on end, losing myself in my novels until either the belly
rumbles loud enough to drag me from my imagination or the kids arrive home.
