Vampires and
shapeshifters are sexy as hell, aren’t they?
When I sat down to write my first novel I knew exactly what I wanted my
hero to be: an alpha male vampire. Nothing else would do. Just ask my critique
partner. We’re always discussing what comes next, what will our next book look
like, and I have such a hard time pulling myself away from paranormal. There’s
just something about a hero who bites! Gosh, I just love that part.
Eventually, I’m
sure I’ll dabble into different genres, but for right now, that’s where my
heart is. And it’s always been said that an author should write what they love.
If you enjoy what you’re creating, it’ll show in your work, and for me, that’s
paranormal romance.
I think it’s the
mystery elements about the vampire and the shapeshifter that, as the writer,
you get to reveal that compels me. I love the freedom when I sit down at the
computer to create my own world. Basically, there are no rules. Your imagination
can run wild.
In my twenties, I
was in love with historical romances. I loved traveling inside my head to other
times and other countries, and for a few hours, I could become someone else.
But it was
paranormal romance that actually drew me to write. I fell in love with the
Highlanders in Karen Marie Moning’s series. Her books were my first
introduction to paranormal elements in a romance, and I was hooked. After that
first book, I found myself picking up a vampire or shifter book every time I
was at the grocery store or book store. They became my new guilty pleasure.
After the birth of
my son, a new opportunity opened up for me to become a stay-at-home mom, and
for the first time, I could entertain doing something that for me was completely
out of the box. I’d been a nurse for more than two decades, and I never thought
it was possible that one day I might have the chance to start a new chapter in
my life. Yet, there I was at the computer and having the time of my life
creating alpha male shifters and dominant vampires. Wow! What a blast. I loved
their worlds. Loved the escape!
And that’s what I
hope my stories bring to the readers: an adventure and an escape from their
everyday life. Who wants the problems that come with the normal world? We face
that every day. Bring me the paranormal, and together, let’s go on a journey.
