Inspiration Behind
the Kiss & Tell Series
I’d been thinking of writing a book about a group of college
friends for quite a while. My husband of twenty years and I met and fell in
love in college. Those were some of the best years of our lives. Falling in
love with my life partner during that time only made it sweeter.
So much is going on during the college years. Young adults
are learning who they are and where they want to make their mark in the world.
They are meeting new people from new places and experiencing a variety of new
things. It is a wonderful time when young adults are on the cusp of their adult
lives and making choices about the path they intend to lead.
Falling in love can change a person’s path. I had planned to
get a job and move into an apartment in the city when I graduated, not move
home because I knew my then boyfriend and I were going to get married. The same
was true for him. He wanted to get an apartment in the city and live the high
life. Instead, we bought a house, started our careers, and got married. Three
years later our kids came along and we transitioned into another phase of our
lives. Neither one of us would change a thing about our journey, but those
college years remain very special to us, both individually and as a couple.
My son who was maybe four or five at the time once asked how
long people go to college. As I contemplated my answer—both
my husband and I got two undergraduate degrees and stayed for more than four
years—he asked, “Do you stay until you find someone to love?” He knew we’d met
in college. My heart melted. I wanted to say, “Yes, son. You sure do.” So the
Kiss & Tell series is for all those college students and the alumni with
fond memories who remember looking for someone to love.
