The Storytellers
By Laura Elliott
Synopsis:
Four storytellers
One ancient demon
No way out…
Four women who call themselves The Storytellers have gathered one hot August evening to tell tales, as they have for years. But on this night, they unknowingly evoke the powers of an ancient Mayan idol that breathes real life into their stories. The Mayan idol isn’t the only ancient being awakened. A power-hungry demon is determined to see the women fail and become enslaved to him forever.
Now the women’s lives depend on surviving each other’s stories, defeating the demon and solving a centuries-old mystery.
If they survive until The End untold wealth is theirs. But some stories have a life of their own…

My 10 Favorite Things
Lucky charms. I write them into almost every one of my
stories. The lucky charm in The Storytellers is the Djucu nut.
Sunsets. I try not to overdue sunsets in my books, but
sometimes I just can’t help it.
Champagne. I think my characters really need to drink a lot
more champagne. *note to self*
The ocean. The only story I’ve written where an ocean
doesn’t appear is Winnemucca, a small-town fairy tale. It’s a story about an
enchanted road trip. It’s kind of funny how the ocean appears in all my other
books.
So, I’m driving my daughter to her SAT test, and we stop for
coffee. On the way she spills coffee all over her jeans. It’s too late to go
back home to change, so we cram into the girls’ room and swap jeans. She had to
take the SAT in “mom jeans.” Srsly. I think the horror of it shaved like 300
points off her score that day. I love how hard we laugh about it. I love to
make my characters belly laugh.
When a single amazing moment can change your entire life. I
try an have as many of these moments in my stories as possible :D
Whispers. Sometimes they’re creepy, but mostly I think
they’re sexy. So, yeah, there’s a lot of whispering going on in The
Storytellers, LOL.
Shooting stars. I wrote a whole book about a boy geek alien
making a wish on the same star at the same time as a Beverly Hills surfer named
Ashley. They swap bodies and lives. It’s an intergalactic tale of beauty and
the geek, called Transfer Student.
Popcorn with garlic butter, rosemary and parmesan cheese.
Popcorn appears in my stories from time to time.
Prayer. My characters rarely pray, but I write a lot about
intuition, which I feel is the Holy Spirit or Higher Power at work in our
lives. I love to write about people awakening to their own intuition and paying
attention to their gut feelings, even when they don’t want to.
About the Author:
I love writing
about enchanted road trips, cursed storytellers, shadow worlds, and alien
romance while eating lots of popcorn. After twenty-plus years as a freelance
graphic designer/animator with clients including E! Entertainment Television
and The Los Angeles Times, I left the real world behind and followed my heart
into the world of fiction. Little known fun facts––I can’t kill a spider but
would gladly kill the tomato-plant eating gophers in my yard if I could get my
hands on them, I wouldn’t mind dying in a vat of salted carmel ice cream from
Portland’s Salt & Straw, next on my dream list is a trip to Indonesia, I
daydream of doing stand-up comedy when I’m not completely terrified of
it.
