The Secret Tree by Bousum and Bennington!

Title: The Secret Tree
Genre: Historical Fiction/Supernatural (But If you think otherwise let me know)
Synopsis:
When 13-year old, Andy Harper, inherits a secret from his dying neighbor, Mr. Beasley, he discovers how sinister the world can be, what true friendship means, and that being a hero in 1959 may cost him his life.

Grieving from his father's disappearance and his grandfather's death, Andy is nearly hopeless. But the intrigue of the secret, and his new friendship with Mr. Beasley, give him a renewed sense of purpose. But when the crooked men who used to run with the local mob discover that Andy knows about the "secret", they come out of the shadows and a hunt for the evil truth begins.

Andy soon finds himself fighting for his life in this historical thriller with a supernatural twist that you'll never see coming.

This book's got it all: Nostalgia, Coming of age, Mobsters, Suspense, and of course a Supernatural twist.

My Review
Okay. This book was weird. In a good way. What happens to the animals when they go near the tree? I would love to see a picture of the tree, is there a hidden compartment? Wha happened to Andy's relatives? Why is the neighbor so interested in Andy? How did the neighbor keep the secret hidden for so long? How much power does the secret have? It must be a lot to make people so evil.
These are all questions I asked myself before I started to read this book. The idea of a secret got me curious. The author delivered with so much going on, that I had to keep reading. I couldn't stop. I needed to find out if Andy would live.
I loved the good versus evil plot that was intertwined with characters growing up, and of course some spooky elements.
There is so much more to this book than that. The town seems to take on a new personality. Life in a small town is very different from where I live, especially in the 1950's. I enjoyed reading about simpler times. I liked the ending and hope that the author scares some more books out of this town!
I am giving this book a 4/5 because it was not my favorite book, but still a great read that I gladly recommend to others!
