CONCRETE
EVIDENCE

BLURB:
A year ago she lost everything.
Now she wants revenge…
Accused of stealing artifacts
from a five-hundred-year-old shipwreck, underwater archaeologist Erica
Kesling is determined to clear her name. She’s concealed her past and
taken a job certain to give her access to the buyer of the missing
antiquities. She's finally closing in on her goal when she's
distracted by a sexy, charismatic intern who makes her want something
other than revenge.
But Lee Scott is
no intern. He's looking for the lead conspirator in an
international artifact smuggling scheme, and Erica is his prime
suspect. He’ll do whatever it takes to win her trust and get her
to reveal her secrets, even seduce her.
As Erica and Lee struggle to
conceal their real agendas, the one thing they can’t hide is the
attraction that burns hot between them. When Erica’s quest puts her life
in jeopardy, Lee must choose between old loyalties and a woman he never
expected to fall for.
Guilt was the last
thing Lee felt after hours of sitting in the bright, climate-controlled,
camera-monitored room, surrounded by dozens of silent researchers hunkered over
boxes. He opened yet another box full of brittle, musty papers and muttered
under his breath, “This is the most boring day of my life.”
Erica glanced at him
over her shoulder and gave him a half smile. “Not Indiana Jones enough for
you?”
He bit his cheek to
keep from smiling. “Indy never spent hours in an archive getting paper cuts.”
“He did. It just
happened off scene.”
“Do you really do
this kind of thing all the time?”
“No. Today is
special.”
He expected to see a
teasing smile, but she was serious. “You’re enjoying
this?”
“This is my first
time at the National Archives, and we’re looking through boxes that were
classified until a few years ago. Who knows what we’ll find?” Her eyes revealed
enthusiasm that told him much about her. He had to respect her dedication to
her work.
“I know what we’ll find. Papers that are old, musty, and full of
military acronyms.” He decided to mess with her. “What’s the acronym we’re
supposed to be looking for, again?”
She glanced at the
half-dozen boxes he’d just gone through, her eyes wide with alarm. “It’s called
ERDL, Lee. E-R-D-L. It stands for Engineer Research and Development
Laboratory.” She spoke to him as if he were slow, which he totally deserved.
He kept his face
blank. “And why do we care about them, again?”
Her voice went up an
octave. “Do I need to go through those boxes again?”
He grinned and
whispered, “Gotcha.”
She dropped
her head into her hands. “I so do not deserve this.”

My Review:
The first chapter of this book had me asking myself many questions. Why is Regina allowed to keep Ricky, when she obviously isn't take care of him. I had to read more and find out what her deal was. Then Ricky gets dropped off at an orphanage and his mother is left lying in a pool of blood. The book then jumps forward about 50 years. I was expecting to have Ricky in the future, but the book picked up with 2 other characters and a new plot. I read the book really fast because I had to know what happened to Ricky.
When I did meet Ricky again, I also met the man that killed Regina. I also got a quick recap of what happened after that sad night. I could not believe the web of lies. I felt like a fly waiting for the spider. There was smuggling, guns, bones, and deceit I had no idea what was going to happen. The secrets were huge, and if let out they would change the characters lives forever. Some people are willing to do anything to get what they want.
The ending was really good, and I hope the author rights more books like this. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own!
