ABOUT THE BOOK
When a band of runaway slaves brings Union-loyal Beth Bumgartner a wounded Confederate soldier named Joe, it is the catalyst that pushes her to defy her pacifist parents and become a nurse during the Battle of Antietam.
Her mother's mysterious goodbye gift is filled with quilt blocks that bring comfort to Beth during the hard days and lonely nights, but as she sews each block, she realizes there is a hidden message of faith within the pattern that encourages and sustains her. Reunited with Joe, Beth learns his secret and puts the quilt's message to its greatest test—but can betrayal be forgiven?

My Review:
So many people go to war, and leave their loved ones behind. Their loved ones wait, and try to help the cause, never knowing if they will be reunited. This book was about love and having the faith to wait. Add that to the effects of war, and a betrayal like none other, and then you can understand where Joe and Beth are coming from.
Quilts have been the thread that holds generations of families together for years. When Beth's mother gave Beth the quilt squares neither of them could begin to imagine the role it would play in Beth's life. I crochet and there is a certain calmness that comes over me. I could picture Beth quilting and thinking of Joe.
The ending was pretty good and I love this Quilts of Love series. Beth gives Joe a token of her love and affection. Will Joe give it back to her? Does he even come home? Will they trust each other enough to forget the past and start a new life together?
I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review from CFBA, however all opinions are my own!
