Tower of Obsidian by L.T. Getty review and giveaway!

When Kale mac Tadhg is betrayed by his lord’s men, he is sent on an impossible quest: to slay a witch in a tower, and end a people’s curse. Both Kale’s best friend Aaron Smithson and former betrothed Aoife of Westgate set out to rescue him, but their journey takes them into the uncharted waters and Nordic colonies, to a land cursed and all but forgotten as they begin to realize that there is some truth to old legends. Kale’s rescue comes at a price – for by the time Aaron and Aoife know where to search, like so many before him, Kale becomes bound to the ancient tower’s fate.

Excerpt:

She is the one who was left behind,” the shamaness said. “When man was still learning to make civilizations, before there was written word, her people were old. She was imprisoned in the dark tower before my people were a people. The land all around her curses her, and yet she lingers, like us, unable to die.”

“I’ve heard of this story,” Jarlath said. “It happened long ago, the princess who was locked in a tower and never rescued. They say her tears filled the oceans.”

There are many versions of this story,” the old woman said. “None of the details matter. We have sent our sons for seven generations to do battle with her, and the lucky ones are quickly slain. If they survive the landscape, they’ve to find the way into the tower. There are many floors, each with its own guardian, a dragon in man’s form, who battles them. Often.” She paused to laugh. “Our sons are turned into dragons, some to guard the tower, others to be sent out, and do the witch’s bidding. You saw the dragon that accompanied the men. He is not our servant, but our jailor.”
“You are mad,” Ruairí said. “You are beyond mad. I am the son of a prince. You will ransom me.”

The old woman chuckled. “I am mad? Very well, mad or sane you will go. You will avoid the tower until thirst and hunger drive you insane, and you will seek it out because if you defeat her, the land will no longer cry out. It will be free, and so will you. Your trial will end. You can return to your land and become a hero worthy of legends.” She frowned. “Though, the hour is late. We are all but spent. Soon, another people will be plucked out of obscurity, charged to defeat Aurore.”

My Review:

This was a great story about mythology. I loved the dragons , and the new take on the old fairy tale. What if someone forgot about Sleeping Beauty? Would she still be stuck in slumber? Are fairy tales based in truth? or our they our history? What if there are no happy endings? Happily ever after doesn't exist and we are all doomed. Someone has to set things right. This book was well written and I liked how we can all be touched by darkness. I really enjoyed the new take and loved the world that the author created! I was very happy with the ending and was happy with the plot. I was definitely surprised a few times.

The characters were fun to read about, and I can not wait until I can read more about them. I am giving this book a 4/5. Follow along with the tour, and don't forget to comment below.
