My Review:
I really liked a few things in this story. First, I loved te fact that there was a "watcher" that watched what was going on and kept a record. I also really liked all the different things the book had to offer. There are immortals, old relics, vampires, Death bed promises, andthe Red Veil Bond that is shared between Meridian and Severian. To me this novel was part paranormal romance and part historical romance. Set against the War of the Roses, this book is rich in history.
I also like that the bad guys of horror stories in the past are still the bad guys (vampires). Every once in a while a good vampire is fun, but they are bad boys and I like how the author wrote them in that way. I am also happy that I am reading these together, because this is the prequel to Ascent of Blood, and after reading them in order I can only hope that there will be another book coming out soon!
Title: Ascent of Blood

Length: 90K words
Book Description:
Sometimes,
love is conceived in the mind of a man long before it is ever realized.
1990, Cardiff , Wales . Vampire prince, Sebastian Pearce, has waited
six-hundred years for the right human mate. His own beloved mother was a mortal
capable of carrying immortal offspring. While vampires no longer require live
donors for sustenance, Mother Nature has played a cruel trick on them making
breeders a rare commodity. As numbers in Sebastian’s Imperial House continue to
dwindle, his virgin bride eludes him. That is, until he happens upon a young
woman searching for information about a sacred vampire text, the Book of
Descent. Sebastian’s desire for her is more potent than anything he’s felt for
another woman, but Everleigh Marbut isn’t innocent. She’s an American with a
mind of her own, and worst of all, she’s already carrying an immortal being. As
Sebastian and Everleigh fight their attraction to each other, they don’t
realize they’re being lured into a battle pitting medieval myth against the
power of modern science to recreate life until it’s too late.
The destiny
of his lineage, and the bond forged between them, now rests in their acceptance
of each other as they are.
My Review:
I was curious to see how the prequel would set the stage for this book, and the author did a great job jumping into the future. This book is about the next generation of Severian's line. Sebastian is the last hope for this vampire blood line, and he has to find his human mate before it is too late.I liked that the books were realted by family and we got to learn more about the first book through this one. The author did a great job of writing about vampires in two seperate times. The book was fast paced and I was hooked. I could not read fast enough.
I am giving these 2 books a 4/5 because you have to read them together to really find yourself a part of the plot. I really enjoyed them and will be keeping an eye out for the next installment!
