In part one, some of the various attempts that have been made to predict the future – both serious and fanciful – are examined, including some famously bad predictions. In the second part, the approach of general systems theory is used to explain why some dynamical systems are so unpredictable. The Dust Bowl is used as an example of how complex systems can interact in ways that are hard to predict, as well as the stock market and the dynamics of the human mind.
My Review:
This is an interesting book about how people can use probability and science to make predictions. My favorite part was when the author talks about how astrology is used. It was very fun to read. Data is also used. There are other things in this book like pattern recognition and randomness. I liked that the book also talked about prediction through the ages. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review through The Book Review Buzz, however all opinions are my own.
