Info
I’m
a California native, who lives in the South – Virginia to be exact.
I still prefer sushi to fried chicken, avocado to okra,
and I absolutely loathe humidity, but I love watching the seasons
change. My husband and I have been here for ten years, and I
still get giddy like a school girl every time it snows.
I’m
married to my high school sweetheart. We were married young,
barely out of high school, when everyone told us we were crazy and
stupid. We’ll be celebrating 12 years of marriage this year,
and I love him more every single day. We’re living proof that
true love knows no age limit.
We’ve
been blessed with two beautiful daughters who continue to amaze and
inspire me, and are probably making me go a bit insane. I’m
obsessed with yoga and pilates and am a complete chocoholic.
I apologize in advance for the amount of sweets in my book.
I’m
absolutely obsessed with romance novels (duh) and probably could have
built a vacation home with the amount of money I’ve invested in
them over the years. Romance novels take you to another place,
making your heart race, emotions swell, passion run free. After
so many years of meeting hundreds of fictional characters and
discovering their worlds, I found myself creating my own.
My
debut novel, When You’re Ready, a novel about about finding
love after loss, will be released August 1st!

Author Interview:
1. What is your favorite thing to have in the
background while you are writing? silence, tv etc
I’ve been
a mom for nine years now. After that
many years, I’ve learned how to tune certain things out when necessary. There aren’t many silent moments in my house. No, scratch that. There are never any silent moments in my
house. So, I’ve learned to adapt when
I’m writing. I can write while the TV is
on, my children are chattering away, or the dogs are barking. I just tune everything out and let my
imagination take over. When I find
myself watching the Disney channel more than my computer monitor, I know it’s
time to take a break, but in general I am fairly easy-going in my
writing-style. I have to be. Mom’s are awesome creatures. We should be studied.
2. Do you have a luck charm when writing?
Not
really. Although, I always have my
iPhone next to me when I write. I use
music to inspire my writing. It helps me
build emotion when I’m creating a scene.
I usually keep my phone close by so I can play something if I need a
little push in the right direction.
3. what is the hardest thing about the editing
process?
The
hardest part about editing is willingly giving your heart and soul over to
someone else. When you write, you are
literally giving your readers a piece of yourself in every sentence you create. Handing over your work to an editor is an
emotional process. It’s about finding a
balance between someone who will respect your work and also be honest with you
when it’s needed. When I was searching
for an editor, I wanted someone who wouldn’t sugarcoat everything for me. I needed a person who could be blunt, but
also understood my story and would make sure it shined through in the end. Putting your work into the hands of another
is a scary process. It involves a great
deal of trust.
4. what would you like my readers to know?
Many people
have asked me how I became an author.
Did I have an epiphany? Did
something or someone great inspire me?
There wasn’t some incredible event that lead me to writing. I didn’t dream of a meadow or wake up from a
coma. I just decided one day that I was
good enough to try. Following your
dreams is about courage. It’s not
whether or not you’re good enough. The
first step is getting the nerve to take the leap and decide your dreams are
worth the risk.
