Book Excerpt

“Are you ready, Sokron?” Meeka asked Sokron as they all came back to Nina’s room from the kitchen.

“Mm-hm.” Sokron sat straight as she began. “Here we go….Once upon a time there was a little girl with a beautiful name, Sokoora. She lived in a town full of dwarfs like her, all of whom lived in a huge rainbow pumpkin under a hollow tree. One of her favorite rooms in the pumpkin was a design studio that she had created for all the local animals. Sokoora liked to make the animals feel beautiful and special, and she had a very dwarfish way of doing it."

"Every morning Sokoora would invite all the animals into her very fancylicious studio full of different flowery colors. Here she had many unique items she used for helping the animals experiment with their personal style, accessories like face paint, jewelry and butterfly bows. And of course there were lots of different mirrors and exotic hats."

"One morning, this artist Sokoora noticed a fire bird with beautiful purple eyes staring at her from the middle of the crowd of animals waiting to enter the rainbow pumpkin. Sokoora felt hypnotized by the bird’s eyes and could not move. ‘What a strange feeling I have…I feel like I'm melting….I can see stars dancing around, the moon like a disco ball, a gorgeous castle flying on a cloud, a big clock telling me it's a very special time in the evening, and all kinds of presents coming from all directions toward the cloud castle….

Oh, what a beautiful dream!’"

"‘Good job, Fliffery-birdy-bird,’ said the bird’s trainer, who Sokoora hadn't noticed before. ‘Let’s go. We have more messages to deliver.’"
"When Sokoora heard that, she immediately woke up from her unforgettable dream. ‘What just happened? Was that real?’ she questioned herself. ‘What could all this mean? Did I just receive a message? An invitation maybe!? To a royal ball perhaps? Aha…I got it! I got it! It’s a birthday party! Today! I better get prepared and ready,’ Sokoora happily yelled out loud as she jumped and clapped. Then she looked at the animals around her and asked, ‘Who wants to be my present for this girl’s birthday party?’"

"One little hand lifted over its owner's head. The creature had furry pink bunny ears, but it also had pink wings on its back."

"‘OK, great! The birthday girl will love you!’ Sokoora announced as she skippedy-hopped across the floor inside of her studio and boxed her cute little volunteer creature into a pinkalicious round box.

Then she announced, “Please come back tomorrow, my dearest friends,” and happily set out with her gift pet into the dreary, unfashionable wilderness."

"When Sokoora reached the forest, she saw that a giant purplish furry-fuzzy bird-dragon (one of her favorite birds to fly on), was waiting for her. When Sokoora came closer, the bird-dragon approached her and remarked, ‘I heard you are going to the birthday party. I don't fit in your studio, but if you give me a big bucket of black lipstick, I’ll let you ride me. Deal!?’"

"Sokoora thought; she knew how much this bird-dragon loved black lipstick, but she didn't have that much.

‘Hmmm, how about five buckets, but… tiny ones?’"

"‘Deal!!’ said the bird-dragon as it kneeled down to let the lipstick girl climb on his furry-fuzzy back."

 My Review:
This was an interesting read, and it held my attention with no problem. It teaches kids about imaginations, friendship, and most of all to be themselves. I liked that there is something going on with the dog. There is something going on there. I also liked the way each character had their own talent, and were true to themselves. They drawings looked like they were drawn by a child, and that makes the book easy for the kids reading to relate to. I also liked that the girls were worried about their friend, and thought of ways to make her feel better. I would have liked a male character though. The words were easy to understand, especially for young readers.
I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.

Giveaway is for an ebook copy to an international winner! Good Luck!
