Murder For A Rainy Day
by Teresa Trent

Murder for a Rainy Day has all the things I enjoyed about Burnout, plus a baby! The townspeople are warm and genuine. I felt like I had a stake in the goings on about Pecan Bayou and care about its residents, including the newest little’un.

Murder for a Rainy Day had some things that I knew were coming and other twists I did not see. It had some funny stuff, some recaps with dreams, some silly crimes and some murder.

About This Author
Teresa Trent writes her Pecan Bayou Mystery Series from Houston, Texas.  With a father in the army, her family moved often finally settling in Colorado.  Living in Texas for the last 19 years she loves the people and even the weather.  Murder for a Rainy Day includes a hurricane, and having endured Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Rita with her family, Teresa would much rather write about them than evacuate from them.   Teresa includes Danny, a character with Down Syndrome in her Pecan Bayou family and in real life is the mother of an adult son with Down Syndrome/PDD.  Creating the character of Danny and all of the other inhabitants of Pecan Bayou has been a joy for her.  This book is the last one in the Pecan Bayou Series taking Betsy from single mom to mother of three.  Teresa is now working on her next series that will take place in the Piney Woods of Texas.

INTERVIEW:

Where are you from?
I am an Army brat, born in Tennessee, lived all over with many years in Colorado.  As an adult I settled with my family in Houston, Texas.

Tell us your latest news?
My sixth mystery in the Pecan Bayou Series, Murder for a Rainy Day is out in Kindle and paperback form.  This book is the culmination of the first five in this series.  My main character, Betsy, is 8.5 months pregnant.  This time around as she solves the mystery she is aided by the ghosts of the victims in the first five books.

When and why did you begin writing?
I wrote off and on for years, like so many people.   With the birth of my son with Down Syndrome writing changed for me.  It went from being a hobby to a dear friend.  After I worked through that time, I just kept writing and finding great joy in creating characters, situations and worlds all my own.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I was in my twenties I published a freelance article with a national magazine.   I realized this was something I could do, not just think about doing.

What inspired you to write your first book?
My first book, A Dash of Murder centers around a paranormal investigation.  I'll be the first to admit I am absolutely fascinated by ghost-hunting programs.  As a child we lived in a house I would consider haunted, and I never forgot those experiences.   My daughter and I used to watch Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi and even though I think I would be really anxious  walking around a haunted hospital at night, I don't mind writing about it.
I was also surrounded by women who were single mothers who did so much and worked very hard to support and raise their children.  I  wanted to write some of their story.  Of course I had to bring in the supportive community that often surrounds these women and from that Betsy and her family were created.

Do you have a specific writing style?
That's a great question and one I've never been asked!  Because I want my characters to be the kind of people my reader might meet anywhere, my writing style is informal.  I often include bits of the dialects of Texas and some of the sarcasm that is part me and part of the state that loves to brag about itself.

How did you come up with the title?
On the surface this title has to do with the hurricane that is headed towards Texas and the resulting tornadoes that spin toward Pecan Bayou.  At a deeper level the concept of waiting and putting things away for a rainy day occurs with many of the characters in the story.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Family is the most precious thing you will ever be blessed with.

What would you like my readers to know?
Murder for a Rainy Day will be free on Kindle during this tour!  Pick up your copy!  Free days are November 24-26 and if you miss that it is free again on December 4-5.
This book marks the end of the Pecan Bayou Series, but don't worry I'm excited to be working on the first book in my Piney Woods Series.  Think fresh pine, a little gumbo and of course, murder.
