Excerpt
She opened her eyes. Or at least she thought she had. That was her intention. But everything was black. Maybe it was still dark out. She tried again, this time there was a fuzzy blur... a shadow... a stray bit of light... and a voice. But as quick as it all came, it left.

Sometime later she became aware of sounds and sensations. Everything was still dark. She had no sense of who she was or where she was. There was a feeling of being but not of knowing anything else. It was just blank. Something brushed over her body, it was light, delicate really. She recoiled inside, pulling back, trying to shrink more into the deep, dark hole that seemed to be her companion. Fear wrapped her in its cloak, like a living, breathing monster, capturing her in a net she felt unable to get out of.

A very distant part of her brain screamed at her, to get the h*ll away... to move... to do something... but it was so far away, so faint. She could feel the desperation but could barely grasp what it was telling her to do... or why. She tried to wade through the enveloping darkness to reach it. But she couldn't move. She was trapped in a tiny black cave with nowhere to go... nowhere to hide... with nothing to see. The panic which had been so remote a moment ago was suddenly all there was. The harder she fought it, the more she fell down the dark well. She had no sensation of self, no meaning of who she was. There was heaviness but she didn't know anything beyond the little gloomy hole that she seemed to inhabit.

She made a sound. Or at least she thought it came from her but when she couldn't repeat it, she wasn't sure. Something moved, maybe even touched her. She couldn't be certain. There was a tiny sense of pain but then it receded, taking the anxiousness with it... then there was nothing.

Sounds filtered into her little world.

"Now... do it."

"She's..."

Only snippets of their words drifted into her consciousness. She wanted to ask what the two men were talking about. Who they were talking about? And where was she? Who she was?

She wanted to call out but remembered that the last time she'd made a sound or tried to, everything had disappeared. She kept quiet. She waited. Slowly more things started to come to her.

Interview:
Where are you from?
I grew up on a farm, outside a small town in Southern Alberta. I now live on an acreage near a small town in central Alberta.

Tell us your latest news?
I have had a lot going on the last few months with my books and my writing. Tainted Waters won 2013 book of the year in Suspense and Thriller through Turning the Pages Magazine. Captured Lies won book of the month for February at Long and Short Reviews. I published Deceitful Truths in March and I started putting my ebooks on USB's that I had custom made with my name and started selling them. I did a book signing in March and I'm doing a presentation to a writer's group in April. I have a lot more going on this year, some to do with writing and some in my personal life but I won't bore you with all of that. But stay tuned, some big changes for me this year. J

When and why did you begin writing?
My earliest memory of writing anything that made any sense was when I was nine. I might have been writing earlier than that but I don’t remember doing much of anything. I'm not sure why I started writing but I always loved books - holding them, flipping through and looking at the words and sometimes even cutting them out - not recommended, adults don't like that. I think that I might have started writing in the winter when it was too cold to go out and play and I was tired of games with my siblings. It was something new to do and I loved where my imagination would and could take me.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Recently. I've written for many, many years but I never thought of myself as a writer. Not sure why, maybe because I never saw what I did as good enough. Then several years ago I started taking a writing course and joined a writing group. When I started getting praise from other authors about my writing, I started to realize that I really could write. So I started calling myself a writer.

What inspired you to write your first book?
I've written several novels but the first one that I published, Captured Lies, was really to test the waters to see if I could write something compelling, something different. And it was a culmination of ideas of what would happen if a person grew up only to discover they lived a life that never should have been theirs. They were meant to live a very different life. How would they learn the truth. What lengths would they have to go to, to discover it. And who would want to make sure that they never discovered who they were.

What would you like my readers to know?
I am an avid reader as well. I love to read all kinds of books but I love suspense/thrillers, fantasy, mystery, type books the most. I seem to like puzzles and the thrill of where is this story going, who's guilty and why and touch of romance. I love twists and turns and stories that keep you guessing as to who the bad guy is and what his/her motivation is and wanting to keep reading to find out. Maybe that's why I like to write suspenseful/thrilling stories that include a bit of romance. If you know of any good books or authors that write these kind of stories, I'd love to hear about them. I'm always looking for a good book to read.
