Isis Rushdan was born in New York City.  Fresh out of high school at sixteen and to the horror of her family, she turned down a college scholarship and joined the U.S. Army.  She likes to keep her family on their toes, but they have always been supportive and even signed the parental consent form.  She had to wait almost a year due to a minor age hiccup, but her calling to serve did not diminish.  After her tour, she went on to graduate with a B.A. in Psychology from Ohio State University and parlayed her degree into an active duty commission as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.  In 2005, she joined the reserves, where she is still a member of the Armed Forces.

Excerpt

Ragged breaths scraped past Serenity’s lips. Warm blood dripped from her fingers. Cyrus’s words resonated somewhere in the distance, a whisper in the whir of her head.
“Help me. Please.” Blistering pain flared as she continued to dig at her chest. If she could hold on to the insidious chain for just a second, she could rip it off.
Cyrus seized her by the arms, the grip so tight she gasped, and shook her hard, forcing the breath from her lungs. “I don’t know how to get it off!”
It was the first time he’d raised his voice outside of training. The deep sound was a lash to her mind and she stilled.
“I swear we’ll find a way.” The fiery promise blazed in his anguished eyes.
Her gaze fell to her bloody hands. Tears blurred her vision. Raw skin stung.
He pressed a hot palm to her cheek. “Try not to think about it.”
How could she think of anything else?

Keeping It Hot When Following The Same Couple In A Series.

In the Kindred Chronicles, I wrote about the same couple, Serenity and Cyrus. Sexual gratification was delayed for the couple in book one, Kindred of the Fallen. When they finally came together, the passion was new and the intimate discovery of each other was raw.

As anyone who has been in a long-term relationship knows that level of intensity changes over time. Fortunately, Protector of the Flame, the second book, picks up exactly where the first left off. Practically no time has elapsed for the couple and the level of desire is still extremely high. They’re also growing as a couple, which includes learning more about one another inside and outside of the bedroom.

I was selective in the sex scenes I chose to write. Each one needed to be there (sorry no gratuitous sex just to have sex on the page) and each had to show an important facet of development between Cyrus and Serenity. I let the conflict and tension at the center of those scenes drive the sexual intimacy between the characters. Sometimes the results even surprised me.

At one crucial point, Serenity and Cyrus were supposed to have an exuberant roll in the sack, but she unexpectedly learned something new about her husband. I take the reader through Serenity’s giant emotional shift from elation to utter disappointment. I won’t give too much away, but I will say her devastating discovery doesn’t stop her need to be as physically close as possible to the only man she's ever truly loved. The way the scene played out was completely different from what I initially intended because I listened to my characters.

I hope readers will connect with the characters, feel their emotions and enjoy the continuation of the Kindred Chronicles.

It was great to be here. Thank you for having me today!
